When the San Antonio Spurs drafted Victor Wembanyama, fans knew that they were getting a player who could turn into the face of the franchise. That was the expectation. His play on the court has been incredible, and he’s lived up to the hype. But it’s hard to imagine fans realized the magnitude of Wembanyama’s international fame.
The 20-year-old Frenchman is beloved in his country, to the point where they sent reporters overseas to the United States with the sole goal of covering his career. He’s still in his rookie season and already earning a ton of media attention, a routine that should only amplify as his career rolls on.
In his latest sign of fame, Wembanyama has signed on with Louis Vuitton as an ambassador of the brand. The company put out a statement regarding the move once it was announced. (H/t Joseph Zucker of Bleacher Report)
“Striving for excellence and with a perpetual honing of craft, Victor joins Louis Vuitton on a journey of shared values and aligned ambitions. Like Louis Vuitton himself, the young athlete has blazed a trail, excelling in a career that is only just beginning,” the brand said via L’Officiel.
The Spurs have an absolute superstar on their hands, both on and off the court.
