Heading into the season, the San Antonio Spurs were pegged as one of the bottom-tier teams in the Western Conference. With Victor Wembanyama at the helm, the Spurs were expected to focus on development over wins and losses. And while that’s likely still the case, the Spurs have been better than most expected in the early going.
Wembanyama’s impact on both ends of the court has been evident, but his play on the defensive side of the ball has been most impressive. He’s averaging 1.3 steals and 2.7 blocks per game through the team’s first six contests, and he’s stated his commitment to the defensive end.
After the Spurs’ recent win over the Toronto Raptors, Wembanyama spoke about his willingness to do it all on defense. (H/t Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News)
