Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama could ‘break the sport of basketball’

San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama is one of the most hyped-up players the NBA has ever seen.

In a single summer, the entire future of the San Antonio Spurs franchise was changed forever. They went just 22-60 this past season, opening the door for them to earn a top spot in the NBA Draft Lottery. And just as it did in 1987 and 1997, the night went in their favor, as they won the lottery, paving the way for them to select Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Wembanyama has been the biggest name in the world of basketball for the past couple of months, as the 19-year-old is already a superstar on and off the court. The Frenchman has all the talent to be one of the best players in the league.

When breaking down the top prospects on the Spurs, a list in which Wembanyama ranked first, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report wrote that the youngster could “break the sport of basketball.” (H/t Coty M. Davis of Inside the Spurs)

“It’s hard to say anything about Wembanyama without sounding like you’re speaking in hyperbolic superlatives,” Buckley wrote. “He has once-in-a-generation upside with a never-before seen blend of size, skill and mobility. If he shoots consistently from three, he might break the sport of basketball.”

At 7-foot-5 and with an 8-foot wingspan, Wembanyama’s physical attributes are enough to raise some eyebrows, but his skill with the ball in his hands and on the defensive end makes his talent even more unbelievable.

Spurs fans should be absolutely ecstatic to watch Wembanyama compete for their favorite team for the better part of the next decade (and hopefully beyond).
