Spurs CEO reacts to Gregg Popovich to Brooklyn chatter

The Brooklyn Nets’ No. 1 target in their head coach search is NBA coaching legend Gregg Popovich.

As the Gregg Popovich-to-Brooklyn rumors continue to float around, the San Antonio Spurs brass could find themselves in an odd predicament if the legend decides to entertain the idea of coaching the Nets through the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving era.

But Popovich even listening to Nets general manager Sean Marks’ proposal is still a big “if.” The coaching legend has only known one organization since he became an NBA coach. While now might be a good time for him to leave given where the Spurs are, and the Nets, it doesn’t seem likely on the surface.

From what Spurs CEO RC Buford can tell, Pop isn’t going anywhere.

Buford told Jabari Young of CNBC he is “under the assumption” the Spurs legend is returning, adding:

I don’t know if he’s told Brian any differently. Pop’s shown nothing other than how we’re going to build our team for next year.
