The San Antonio Spurs have had the first pick in the NBA Draft three times. The first was in 1987, and they selected David Robinson. The second was 10 years later, in 1997, and they selected Tim Duncan. And most recently, they got the first pick this past offseason in 2023, and they picked up Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama was the most hyped-up prospect since LeBron James when he was entering the draft, and so far, he’s lived up to that. He’s been absolutely amazing for the Spurs this season despite their lack of success, and with Gregg Popovich leading the way, he’ll be in a great position to succeed moving forward.
Of all the teams Wembanyama could have gone to, the Spurs might be the best. At least, that was the argument Danny Green made when they discussed the topic on a recent edition of ESPN’s NBA Today.
Wembanyama fits perfectly in San Antonio.
