Redshirt freshman Spencer Rattler has checked out at quarterback, bringing an end to his long-awaited starting debut against Missouri State.
Rattler played the full first half, finishing 14-17 with 290 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 17.1 yards per attempt.
He turned heads early, lacing a 58-yard touchdown to Marvin Mims within the first five minutes of the game.
Much has been made of Rattler’s expectations in Norman. He follows in the footsteps of a pair of Heisman Trophy winners, Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, as well as Heisman runner-up Jalen Hurts.
All three of his predecessors performed well in their debuts, but Rattler’s first start might be the best of the bunch. For one of the most anticipated players in recent Oklahoma memory, he’s has no problem fulfilling expectation through week one.
Spencer Rattler's night is done.
