The anticipation for a quarterback at Oklahoma hasn’t felt quite like this since Rhett Bomar stepped on campus in 2005.
Lincoln Riley has had his success with transfers thus far in his tenure with the Sooners. He acquired Baker Mayfield and then recruited Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts to Oklahoma.
Now, he’ll get his chance with his fourth high school signee and the best one yet.
Spencer Rattler is the presumed starter for 2020, pending a quarterback battle with an expected outcome against Tanner Mordecai. 247Sports has Rattler as one of 20 people who could swing the upcoming college football season.
“He’s Lincoln Riley’s first high school recruit to start for him at Oklahoma, but Spencer Rattler is quite the recruit,” wrote 247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons. “A five-star and the No. 1 quarterback in the country in the class of 2019, Rattler could stumble and open up the door for Oklahoma State, Texas or a Big 12 darkhorse to win the conference for the first time since 2014. But there’s a real possibility Rattler rips off another Heisman finalist type of season and it’s just plug-and-play into the playoffs once again for the Sooners.”
Oklahoma is still scheduled to begin the 2020 season on Sept. 5 against Missouri State at home.
