The Arizona Cardinals get back another of their core special teams players for 2021. It was more a less a foregone conclusion but now it is official. Linebacker and special teams ace Zeke Turner has signed his one-year tender for the 2021 season, putting him under contract.
He was a restricted free agent and the Cardinals used the lowest restricted free agent tender on Turner, the right of first refusal tender. If he had signed an offer sheet with another team, the Cardinals would have been able to match the contract and retain Turner if they wanted.
He will make more than $2.1 million this season on the one-year tender.
Turner has been fantastic on special teams ever since he joined the league. He had 22 special teams tackles as a rookie in 2018. He was less productive in an injury-riddled 2019 season but was stellar in 2020. He was tied for the team lead with 15 special teams tackles, he blocked two punts and also had a 26-yard reception on a fake punt.
His official signing rounds out the Cardinals’ special teams unit. All the key contributors except running back D.J. Foster are back.
