Michigan State football did not get a friendly ranking in the USA TODAY preseason 1-134 rankings.
The Spartans are in the bottom half of USA TODAY’s new all 134 teams rankings for the 2024 season. Paul Myerberg released his updated preseason rankings this week, and had Michigan State at No. 79 nationally.
Interestingly, the Spartans are two spots behind their season-opening opponent Florida Atlantic. The Owls came in at No. 77 — which is a bit comical since Michigan State is currently listed as a near two-touchdown favorite over FAU in the season-opener.
In relation to the Big Ten, Michigan State came in at No. 13 out of the 18 teams in the league. The Spartans were ahead of Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, UCLA and Northwestern.
