BIRMINGHAM — The Southern Conference has joined the men’s basketball officiating consortium formed by the Southeastern, American Athletic, Atlantic Sun and Sun Belt Conferences.
The consortium was formed for collaboration on officiating matters related to recruitment, education, training, scheduling and evaluation of officials.

The Southern Conference has joined the men’s basketball officiating consortium formed by the Southeastern Conference, American Athletic Conference, ASUN and Sun Belt Conferences, it was announced Wednesday.
The consortium was established to allow the conferences to collaborate on all officiating matters related to recruitment, education and training, scheduling and evaluation of officials in the sport of men’s basketball.
Mike Eades, has been named Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Officials for the Southern Conference and serves in the same position for the other four conferences, and will oversee all operations of the consortium.
“We are pleased to welcome the Southern Conference to the basketball officiating consortium and look forward to collaborating with the four other conferences to continue the enhancement of men’s basketball officiating,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “The addition of the Southern Conference will bring additional quality officials to the consortium and an enhanced opportunity for efficient recruiting, training, assignment and evaluation of officials.”
