According to multiple reports, South Carolina guard Meechie Johnson is set to reportedly enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the Gamecocks.
Johnson, who transferred to South Carolina prior to the 2022-23 season, was a key factor in the Gamecocks bounce back 2023-24 campaign as he led the team in scoring at 14.1 PPG. Starting all 33 games for a South Carolina team that made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016-17, Johnson also averaged 4.1 RPG and 2.9 APG to earn Second Team All-SEC honors, as well as shot 39.9% from the field, 32.1% from three, and 78.8% from the free throw line.
Prior to South Carolina, Johnson appeared in 43 games at Ohio State across his first two collegiate seasons, five of which he started. Averaging 13 MPG, Johnson averaged a combined 3.2 PPG and 1.1 RPG.
Likely to be a sought-after name nationally, Johnson now becomes likely the biggest name from across the SEC to have entered the transfer portal so far this offseason, as well as among the top names in the entire country. Could any more big names potentially follow?
