Rutgers football defensive back Tre Avery is going to an NFL rookie camp.
The multi-year starter for the Scarlet Knights will be at New York Jets rookie camp a source tells Rutgers Wire. Avery put together a solid senior season at Rutgers with 34 total tackles and four passes defended and an interception.
He had a strong showing in the recent Rutgers pro day, showing good athleticism and speed in drills and workouts.
Avery trained locally to Rutgers at TEST Football Academy, the same facility where Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett trained for the NFL combine and his pro day workout.
TEST has a strong track record of sending players to the NFL that includes the likes of Patrick Peterson and Joe Flacco as well as a number of Rutgers players headlined by Duron Harmon and Jamaal Westerman.
Two Rutgers players were taken in last week’s NFL draft with wide receiver Bo Melton (Kansas City Chiefs) and running back Isiah Pacheco (Seattle Seahawks) both taken in the seventh round.
