Sooners Wire Staff Predictions for Oklahoma Football vs. Ole Miss Rebels

We have arrived at game number eight for the Oklahoma Sooners, and it is, without a doubt, set to be a tough one. Oklahoma will make the trip to Oxford, Mississippi, for the first time. These two programs met just once in the 1999 Independence Bowl. This will be Oklahoma’s first football game in the state of Mississippi.

Oklahoma’s offense is still a mess, but this week, they will be led by Jackson Arnold to start with Joe Jon Finley as the play-caller. Seth Littrell was shown the door after another lackluster showing against South Carolina.

I think there will be a little bit of inspired play from this Oklahoma team, especially on offense. Maybe someone losing their job will make for a motivator, and maybe a fresh voice will help with playcalling. There’s also the very real possibility that Deion Burks comes back. That would be a major boon to this offense.

I think the Sooners’ defense will empty their tanks again. Ultimately OU falls short after putting forth a much more competitive first half before Jaxson Dart and the Rebels offense pulls away in the second half.

It’s hard to have a lot of faith in the Oklahoma Sooners offense at the moment. They’re averaging 11.75 points per game in SEC play. The change in coordinator doesn’t guarantee the results will change.

Jackson Arnold will be back under center for the Sooners for a road trip against a really good Ole Miss defense. They’re No. 2 in the nation in scoring defense and No. 1 in the nation in rush defense, which means the onus will be on Arnold to make plays for the Sooners.

He’s proven capable at different times this season, but given the issues the Oklahoma Sooners have at wide receiver and along the offensive line, it may be an uphill battle for the Sooners starting quarterback.

This is another game where the Oklahoma defense will have to play heroic football. Ole Miss is averaging just 23 points per game in SEC play and were held to 17 by the Kentucky Wildcats.

Initially, this felt like Ole Miss in a landslide, but if the Sooners can protect the football, they should be able to keep it close.
