Sony is releasing new PS5 console colors in June

Black as midnight on a moonless night.

Can you believe it’s been nearly two years since the PS5 came out, and trying to get one is still like finding some long-lost relic of Atlantis? Even myself, someone who writes about video games for a living, can’t track one down. It’s something else. However, the shortages might be a blessing in disguise for anyone keen on console color options.

On Tuesday, Sony announced that there will be several new color cover variants for the PS5. Yup, white isn’t your only option anymore. There’s Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. Sony even put out a neat little trailer showing off each.

The Starlight Blue, Galactic Purple, and Nova Pink variants will be available on June 17, 2022, via PlayStation Direct. You can pre-order one now even! Midnight Black and Cosmic Red versions have been out since January, though most people don’t know since getting the console is still such a pain.

The global semiconductor shortage continues to hurt console manufacturers across the board. Sony recently announced that the PS5 sold far less last year than was expected. The company also appears to be gearing up for some sort of new model, though who knows when we’ll see that.
