SoFi Stadium will require an adjustment period for Jared Goff

Jared Goff says he’ll have to get used to the shadows and layout at SoFi Stadium.

The Rams will be going from playing in the oldest NFL stadium to the newest this season when they move into SoFi Stadium from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It’s going to be a massive change, not only with the facilities such as the locker room, but also on the field.

Jared Goff recently took a tour of SoFi Stadium and got a behind-the-scenes tour of the $5 billion building, and he was in awe.

“It was amazing. It was really amazing. I know I kept saying the same thing about how amazing it was and wow, but it truly was,” he said on a conference call this week. “I don’t know if you guys have been able to be in there yet, but it’s so big and it’s so monstering when you’re in there and seeing the Oculus on the inside, it’s really cool and it’s going to be a really, really fun time when we are able to be in there with our home crowd and really enjoy it.”

He also came away knowing there will be an adjustment required when the Rams finally play there this season. Game clocks and play clocks will be in different spots, shadows will be prevalent and the Oculus scoreboard will be suspended above the field. Goff said on a he’ll have to get used to the Oculus hanging from the roof, which will be much different than the boards spread around the Coliseum.

“It will definitely be part of it,” he said. “I think there’s going to be shadows in certain places that we are going to want to know and there’s going to be certain ways that we’re going to want to look at the scoreboard like you’re saying – where is the play clock, where is the game clock, where is the scoreboard – different things like that will definitely come into that and be important.”

The Rams plan to play a couple of scrimmages at SoFi Stadium before the regular season begins, but that will mostly be for players lower on the roster who are fighting to make the 53-man squad.

The team’s biggest stars will take the field for the season opener against Dallas on Sept. 13, a prime-time matchup on Sunday Night Football.
