The Georgia Bulldogs finished their SEC schedule with a 6-2 record. That’s a solid record, but Georgia needed some help to make it to the SEC championship.
On Saturday, they received major help, with the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide losing to the Oklahoma Sooners 24-3. The Sooners’ defense stepped up, forcing three interceptions from Jalen Milroe and allowing only 234 total yards of offense. Oklahoma’s running game paved the way on offense, with quarterback Jackson Arnold and running back Xavier Robinson combining for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Oklahoma earned their second SEC win and a bowl game as a result.
After Oklahoma and Auburn’s wins, the Georgia Bulldogs have officially clinched a spot in the fourth-straight SEC championship game. Due to their SEC record, there’s no scenario that can take Georgia out of the running. Tennessee and the loser of the Texas/Texas A&M game would be behind the Bulldogs due to either head-to-head tiebreaker or due to their SEC opponent’s winning percentage.
Georgia will play the winner of the Texas/Texas A&M matchup next week in the SEC championship.
How did social media react to Alabama’s shocking loss to Oklahoma?
“The Tide haven’t lost three games in a season since 2010,” said ESPN via social media.
“Let me be the first to apologize to Vanderbilt. You did not hand Alabama the worst loss in its history. Oklahoma just did,” said a fan via social media.
“Alabama was favored by 13.5 points over Oklahoma. That’s why you play the game. This is why results should matter, not hypotheticals,” said college football reporter Nicole Auerbach via social media.
“This is my vision: that Oklahoma was absolutely relentless in all three phases, and they knocked Alabama out…without a doubt, Oklahoma was the most physical football team tonight,” said Oklahoma coach Brent Venables after the game.
