Vance Honeycutt is clutch. The star outfielder delivered the big hit for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they took game one of the Chapel Hill Super Regional on Friday night.
UNC had to come back twice to win at home against Mountaineers ace pitcher Derek Clark who was dealing through eight innings. Clark entered the ninth inning with a 6-5 lead. But on the very first pitch, Luke Stevenson took him deep to tie the game.
Then Honeycutt delivered the big hit a few batters later.
Honeycutt hit a monster two-run home run to give the Tar Heels an 8-6 win on Friday night and an early advantage in the series. It’s the third home run for Honeycutt in the postseason after he hit two against LSU last weekend.
UNC is now one win away from punching its ticket to Omaha for the College World Series and will look to do so on Saturday night.
