The college football world watched as Texas boat-raced Oklahoma in the first half, but ran out of gas and blew what once was a 28-7 lead.
Texas looked as dominant as ever this season in the first half, but when the second half rolled around and Lincoln Riley decided to fully commit to freshman Caleb Williams at quarterback, the Texas defense looked shell-shocked and did not have an answer.
Williams unlocked the Oklahoma playbook and style that we have grown accustomed to thanks to the likes of Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Jalen Hurts. The Longhorns looked more like they did against Arkansas and were exposed by the run game and a mobile quarterback.
It didn’t help that the once electric offense that scored 38 points in the first half, was held to just 10 points the rest of the game. The Longhorns offensive line continues to be disastrous, as four out of the five linemen were amongst the lowest graded players according to PFF. If there is an adjustment that can be made this late into the season, the trigger needs to be pulled.
Casey Thompson performed quite well given the circumstances and was under constant pressure. Even running back Bijan Robinson had to work his magic just to get past the offensive line.
The loss certainly took the wind out of Texas’ sails as it was starting to look like they would be able to dethrone Oklahoma from atop the Big 12. The Longhorns still can control their own destiny, but a loss in this fashion to their most hated rival has to hurt.
Social media was as active as ever during the game, and the tweets went from Texas being back to calling out the Longhorns for choking away the win. Here are some of the many social media reactions to Texas’ devastating 55-48 loss to Oklahoma.
