The Pittsburgh Steelers released quarterback Mitch Trubisky Monday, sending social media into a frenzy as the former UNC star hits free agency.
Trubisky didn’t have the Pittsburgh career he imagined, despite having a plethora of opportunities to become the next franchise quarterback. Instead, Trubisky struggled, starting seven games out of twelve games played, resulting in a 2-5-0 record.
In those 12 games, Trubisky completed 64.1% of his passes for 1884 yards, eight touchdowns, and ten interceptions. A huge problem for Trubisky was his pocket awareness, getting sacked at a 5.9% clip.
The move stems from the Steelers’ loaded QB room after Mason Rudolph’s impressive late run last season, while their first-round draft investment Kenny Pickett was nursing an injury.
Despite not working out in Pittsburgh, Trubisky should still get plenty of suitors looking to bring the Tar Heel in to compete for a backup role. Football fans discussed the short Trubisky era in Pittsburg, expressing what went wrong and what could be next.
Let’s take a look at how social media reacted to the Pittsburgh Steelers releasing Mitch Trubisky.
