Day 2 of the 2022 NFL draft has come and gone, and the Oklahoma Sooners finally saw two of their highest-rated prospects come off the board. Nik Bonitto was selected at No. 64 by the Denver Broncos and Brian Asamoah went at No. 66 to the Minnesota Vikings.
Here’s what Nate Davis of USA TODAY Sports had to say about the two Sooners’ selections.
Nik Bonitto, Denver Broncos
Not fair to ask Bonitto to replace Von Miller. But the former Sooner is a plus athlete (6-3, 248, 4.5 speed) who was extremely productive, posting 16 sacks and 26½ TFLs since 2020. He and Bradley Chubb could wreak plenty of havoc off the edge against the likes of Justin Herbert, Derek Carr and Patrick Mahomes. – Davis, USA TODAY Sports
Brian Asamoah, Minnesota Vikings
Undersized but moves well and could cover some ground alongside Eric Kendricks. – Davis, USA TODAY Sports
The big surprise so far is that defensive lineman Perrion Winfrey was left on the board at the third round’s conclusion. Winfrey was once considered a top 50 prospect in many spaces, but NFL teams seem uncertain of his fit at the next level. A natural 3-technique, Winfrey was forced to play a lot of 0-technique or 1-technique (nose tackle) in Alex Grinch’s defense.
It shouldn’t be long before Winfrey hears his name called, but for him to last this long is a surprise.
Before the final day of the draft kicks off, let’s look at some of the best reactions from former and current Oklahoma players, coaches, and media members.
