Year after year. Game after game. The Nebraska Cornhuskers under the direction of head coach Scott Frost continue to make the same mistakes and as a result suffer the same consequences. Saturday night’s 45-42 loss to Georgia Southern may be the official end of Scott Frost’s tenure as head coach of Nebraska and his 31st loss was, in my opinion, the most painful loss in recent Nebraska memory. With a 42-38 lead late in the fourth, the Georgia Southern Eagles needed only 11 plays to go 75 yards in 2:29 for a game-winning score. Yet, you knew it was going to happen. You knew that in a tight game the Huskers would never be in a position to close out their opponent. It’s the hallmark of the last four-plus years. Never being situationally prepared and as a result, always being one step behind.
Frost’s buyout is currently $15 million and it cuts in half on October 1st but is it worth it to wait? As sports business reporter Darren Rovell tweeted “for a program that brings in $55 million annually, how damaging is each week of losses? I’d argue more than $7.5 million.” I can honestly say that when Scott Frost accepted the position of head football coach at his alma mater in December of 2017 I never thought this is where the program would be four years later. Where Athletic Director Trev Alberts goes from here is anyone’s guess.
More in-depth coverage is on the way but for now, here is a compilation of social media chatter surrounding the Nebraska Football program and its future.
