Social media reacts as No. 3 Iowa rolls Rutgers, Caitlin Clark collects another triple-double

Triple-double No. 14 for Caitlin Clark. Gabbie Marshall broke out behind the 3-point line. Social media enjoyed what it saw vs. Rutgers.

In front of a sold out crowd inside Jersey Mike’s Arena, things went about as smoothly as could be expected for No. 3 Iowa in the Hawkeyes’ 103-69 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Sure, senior superstar Caitlin Clark could’ve connected on a few more 3-pointers, but she exited Piscataway, N.J., with her 14th career triple-double, scoring 29 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists. Clark connected on 10-of-22 from the field and 3-of-9 from downtown and came away with a pair of steals.

The West Des Moines standout did all of that in just 29 minutes of floor time.

While the fans came out in droves in Jersey to see the Caitlin Clark Show, they were also treated to a number of key performances across the board for Iowa.

Graduate guard Kate Martin had another efficient night at the office, scoring 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. The Edwardsville, Ill., native added seven rebounds and five assists in just 24 minutes as well.

Junior guard Sydney Affolter registered her first career double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Hannah Stuelke registered another double-figure scoring game, too. The 6-foot-2 big from Cedar Rapids finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

But, perhaps most importantly, is this the night we look back on where fifth-year guard Gabbie Marshall broke out of her prolonged shooting slump to start the season?

Marshall entered Friday night shooting just 25.4% from 3-point distance, despite being a career 38.6% 3-point shooter. By the night’s end in Jersey, Marshall had polished off a 4-for-7 3-point shooting night with 12 points.

All of it had Hawkeye fans feeling pretty rosy. Take a look at the best social media reactions to Iowa’s blowout victory over Rutgers.
