The Iowa Hawkeyes weren’t messing around on Sunday night.
After their first loss of the season this past Thursday against Kansas State, 65-58, No. 2 Iowa (4-1) put on a show against Drake (3-1). The Hawkeyes got back to sharing the basketball and shooting it effectively en route to a 113-90 win over Drake.
After shooting just 36.1% from the field and 9.5% from 3-point distance against K-State, Iowa finished shooting 64.3% against Drake and 54.2% from beyond the arc.
In the process, Iowa set multiple scoring records. The Hawkeyes scored their most points ever in a first quarter with their 37-point eruption. Similarly, Iowa scored the most points in program history in a half with their 64 first-half points against Drake.
Senior star Caitlin Clark wasn’t immune to the shooting woes against the ‘Cats. Against Drake, Clark was eventually back to her normal self. The West Des Moines product collected her third double-double of the season, pouring in 35 points on 14-of-22 shooting, including 5-of-11 from downtown.
She also dished out 10 assists and grabbed six rebounds. With her latest 30-plus performance, Clark set a new women’s Division I record for career 30-point games.
Perhaps the most important development in the win was the emergence of graduate guard Kate Martin. The 6-foot guard went scoreless against K-State.
Not the case versus the Bulldogs. Martin erupted for a career-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting and 3-of-4 from 3-point range.
Redshirt junior center Sharon Goodman added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while fifth-year guard Molly Davis splashed a pair of treys and finished with 10 points for a second consecutive game.
Naturally, Iowa social media was a much more pleasant place to be during and after the win. Take a look at the best reactions to the Hawkeyes’ get-right W over Drake.
