Can you believe it? It’s not remarkable that Alex Grinch got a job as safeties coach. That was his most likely transition from his departure at USC. He wasn’t going to be a defensive coordinator or a head coach, not after his disastrous stint in Los Angeles. Safeties coach made perfect sense. The shocking part was that a Big Ten team — a school which would face USC in the 2024 season and beyond — would hire Grinch, as though he would add value to the operation.
If Grinch got a job, it made more sense that an AAC or Mountain West program — a school further down the food chain — would give him a rebound opportunity. Wisconsin is not that kind of school.
