It wasn’t the debut as a starter at Alabama that former Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner was looking for. After being second on the depth chart in Alabama’s first two games, Buchner was named the starter as the Crimson Tide traveled to South Florida on Saturday.
Unfortunately, Buchner struggled mightily as Alabama looked out of sorts under his direction. On their first five possessions, the Crimson Tide marched a grand total of 78 yards on offense. Buchner went just 5 of 14 passing for 34 yards and was benched to allow former mega-recruit Ty Simpson to play.
Simpson led Alabama to a field goal on his first possession and ultimately Alabama won 17-3 at South Florida. As you can probably imagine, social media reaction to Buchner’s outing as well as Tommy Rees’ playcalling was not kind.
