Social media hilariously reacts to viral video of rapping Iowa Vampire from the 1980s

Things got weird this week in the best way as vintage film surfaced of the 1980s rapping Iowa Vampire from inside Kinnick Stadium.

Yes, folks, you did read that headline right. No, this is not April Fools’ Day prank. It is late June. This is a real thing, and I can’t decide if it’s glorious or the worst thing I’ve ever seen.

Joe Conklin, an Iowa football alum and current Director of Development at the University of Iowa, unearthed a blast from the past earlier this week. He warns us to “brace ourselves,” but no amount of preparation could even come close to readying ourselves for this.

It’s a hilariously dated video from the 1980s of the corniest of corny rap songs about the Iowa Hawkeyes complete with an Iowa Vampire. Get ready because “We are the Hawks” is set to get stuck in your head in either the best or the worst way possible.

Apparently, this was all the rage during that era, these horribly cringe raps for corporate ads. Everyone got in on the fad, from this Converse All-Star ad from 1986 to the famed Chicago Bears Super Bowl Shuffle.

I have no earthly idea why Iowa football decided to run with the idea, or why there is a rapping vampire, but it has made for some absolute gold on social media. Here are some of the best reactions.
