On Saturday the LSU Tigers open the home slate against an in-state opponent with McNeese State coming into Tiger Stadium. The second-ever matchup between the two schools after the Tigers took down the Cowboys 32-10 back in 2010. Both schools coming in with 0-1 records after losing last Saturday.
LSU has a lot to get right after the defense watched UCLA run and throw all over the defense. It was very reminiscent of the opener in 2020 when the LSU defense gave up over 600 yards against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. A new defensive coordinator didn’t have much of a different impact, Daronte Jones needs to get his defensive playmakers in a position to make a difference moving forward.
The offense looked decent through the air against UCLA with Max Johnson going over 300 yards with three touchdowns. The southpaw needs to be a bit more accurate moving forward, the offensive line needs to give him more time as he was constantly under duress. They also need to get the running game humming as they managed just two yards per attempt last week.
The enthusiasm quickly faded a week ago and the criticism of the team came fast and furiously. ESPN College GameDay crew were critical of the team at almost every level of the team.

Doug Moreau is one of the true gentlemen of @LSUfootball. A great player and involved in radio broadcasts dating back 50 years, Doug recently had reconstructive shoulder surgery, but returns to radio booth tonight with @LSUTigersVoice. Had great chat, will share in coming days. pic.twitter.com/iid5wc6BHs
