The Washington Football Team defeated the Seattle Seahawks, 17-15, on Monday Night Football to improve to 5-6 and move into the seventh and final NFC playoff spot.
While Washington dominated the game, it wasn’t easy, mainly due to injuries. Washington lost kicker Joey Slye during the game, settled for two-point conversions, and went for it on fourth down, rather than sending punter Tress Way out to kick.
The WFT also lost center Wes Schweitzer, their third center of the season, giving Keith Ismael an opportunity. And, there was the scary late-game injury to running back J.D. McKissic.
Injuries put Washington in a difficult situation, leading to more playing time for young players. That’s reflected in this week’s snap counts from Monday night.
Offense
- LT Charles Leno, LG Ereck Flowers, RG Brandon Scherff and RT Cornelius Lucas played every snap for Washington’s offense, along with quarterback Taylor Heinicke.
- Schweitzer played 30 snaps before his injury. Ismael went the distance, appearing in 54 snaps.
- WR Terry McLaurin played 90% of Washington’s offensive snaps. DeAndre Carter was next in line at wide receiver, appearing in 73% of the snaps.
- WR Curtis Samuel played 20 snaps in his first game back.
- TE Logan Thomas played in 79% of the snaps in his first game back.
- RB Antonio Gibson played 57 snaps, while McKissic played 33 snaps.
Defense
- Four members of the secondary played every snap in cornerbacks Kendall Fuller and William Jackson III, and safeties Bobby McCain and Kam Curl. LB Cole Holcomb also played every snap.
- S/LB Landon Collins played 85% of the snaps and had himself another fantastic game.
- LB Jamin Davis appeared in 51% of the snaps.
- The defensive tackle rotations saw Jonathan Allen play 36 snaps, Daron Payne played 31 snaps, and Matt Ioannidis played 22 snaps. Tim Settle saw eight snaps.
- At defensive end, James Smith-Williams played 36 snaps, while Casey Toohill participated in 33 plays.
- DE Shaka Toney played just five snaps. His impact was felt, as he sacked Russell Wilson once and chased him down on another play, preventing a big play. It was a strong performance from Toney.
