The National Hoopfest has featured quite a few talented high school basketball players who have gone on to play at college and blossom into talented NBA players. Notable alumni include former Brooklyn Nets guard D’Angelo Russell and Philadelphia 76ers stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
The tournament now named after Nets forward Kevin Durant — as opposed to Penny Hardaway, the original namesake — is once again set to feature some of the best high school programs in the country in Memphis, Tennessee in January 2021.
According to national high school basketball analyst Samad Hines, the following teams will make the trip to Tennessee for Durant’s National Hoopfest:
- Montverde (Florida)
- Sunrise Christian (Kansas)
- Huntington Prep (West Virginia)
- Oak Hill (Virginia)
- Briarcrest Christian (Tennessee)
- St. Mark’s (Texas)
- Wasatch Academy (Utah)
- Lausanne (Tennessee)
- Wooddale (Tennesse)
John Varlas of the Daily Memphian confirmed the slate of teams reported by Hines, and he added that Simeon High (Illinois), Cane Ridge (Tennessee), Chattanooga Hamilton Heights (Tennessee) and West Nassau (Florida) will also participate in the tournament.
