[autotag]Tecia Torres[/autotag] will attempt to snap the longest losing skid of her career when she meets [autotag]Brianna Van Buren[/autotag] in a strawweight matchup.
MMA Junkie verified with multiple people close to the situation that Torres (10-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) and Van Buren (9-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) have agreed to meet on the UFC’s June 20 event. Both fighters have since confirmed the pairing on social media, but UFC has yet to make an official announcement.
The card is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but that’s pending Nevada Athletic Commission approval to resume combat sports in the state after the coronavirus pandemic forced a pause.
Torres is sitting on a four-fight losing skid, albeit to top-level competition in champion Zhang Weili, former champions Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade, as well as undefeated contender Marina Rodriguez. “The Tiny Tornado” hasn’t won since December 2017, and will attempt to avoid becoming the first female in UFC history to suffer five consecutive octagon losses.
Van Buren will attempt to be the one responsible for making Torres set that record, as she looks to pick up the biggest win of her career in her sophomore octagon effort. “The Bull” won her octagon debut in July, outworking Linvinha Souza to a decision at UFC on ESPN+ 13.
With the addition, the latest lineup for UFC’s June 20 event includes:
- Raquel Pennington vs. Marion Reneau
- Roxanne Modafferi vs. Lauren Murphy
- Shane Burgos vs. Josh Emmett
- Lyman Good vs. Belal Muhammad
- Cortney Casey vs. Gillian Robertson
- Tecia Torres vs. Brianna Van Buren
