Sixers veterans happy with what they saw from Tyrese Maxey vs. Pacers

The Philadelphia 76ers veterans were happy with what rookie Tyrese Maxey brought to the table against the Indiana Pacers.

The Philadelphia 76ers were able to rally from a 20-point deficit to beat the Indiana Pacers 119-110 on the road without Joel Embiid on Sunday and they did so with a big effort in the second half. That is mostly due to the play of Tobias Harris plus a switch to zone, but rookie Tyrese Maxey helped as well.

Maxey had two big buckets in the fourth quarter in order to help Philadelphia complete the comeback and he had nine points on the night. He had three assists with zero turnovers and his play was impressive all night long.

“Tyrese obviously is still learning, but he’s going out there with the same confidence,” said Ben Simmons. “No matter how much playing time he’s getting and continuing to grow so I’m proud.”

Maxey’s playing time has been up and down with the return of some of the regular players, but when he does play, he does not disappoint. On top of that, he does a lot of good things for the Sixers. He can get to the basket, he can knock down pull-up jumpers, and he does a solid job on the defensive end.

“I think young fella, Tyrese, just his energy on the offensive end catching the ball, making quick decisions, getting to the basket, making plays,” said Dwight Howard. “On the defensive end pressuring guys and making them pick the ball up.”

The impressive thing about Maxey’s effort was that it helped the Sixers rally and get this win. He has done a terrific job of getting to the basket and not getting too high or too low. He has continued to be an impressive rookie and he helped Philadelphia get a win without their best player.

“Coach, he was on young fella early in the game, but he came back and he played great,” Howard added. “I’m real proud of the way our team handled the situation.”

The team now prepares for the Charlotte Hornets on the road on Wednesday looking to complete a perfect 3-0 road trip.
