Sixers veteran Danny Green reacts to big game after nearly being traded

Philadelphia 76ers veteran Danny Green reacts to his big game following his near trade on Thursday.

The Philadelphia 76ers had a whirlwind day on Thursday as they made a big move to acquire George Hill from the Oklahoma City Thunder and they shipped out to big men in the process. They then lost the only other big man on the roster, Dwight Howard, to an ejection in a wild win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Sixers were led by veteran Danny Green who continued his strong play after the All-Star break by scoring 28 points while knocking down eight triples. It was a wild day for him as well as he was almost traded to the Golden State Warriors on a day where he finally got his ring for winning a championship with the 2020 Lakers.

“It was kind of comical, just thinking about it, but I don’t panic, I don’t worry, I don’t stress,” laughed Green. “I’ve been around the league long enough to know how the business goes. Whatever happens, happens. I just make the best of it and let the chips fall where they may.”

(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/d8b9c085-4226-44f1-8495-36ad4e2aa62d”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

If the Sixers were to trade Green, he obviously would not have received his ring from the Lakers for the 2020 title. This would have been the second consecutive ring he has yet to receive as he was only a week away from receiving his 2019 ring from the Toronto Raptors before the season suspension.

“I was one week away from receiving my Toronto ring, I still have yet to get that one so it will be two years now,” Green continued. “It could have been a couple of hours away if I was to get traded to getting this one and I might not have gotten it. I might have to wait a whole year so if it would have happened, it would have been a very comical, not so comical thing, but I’m glad I’m here. I’m glad I got a chance to receive my ring.”

Green is an important piece to this Sixers team and he is a guy who will certainly play a role in whatever the Sixers plan to do as the season continues. His veteran experience and his shooting ability is a huge plus for this team and having him on this roster is essential due to their youth.

At the end of the day, Philadelphia got the win on Thursday and they are now 3-0 on this trip. They now have to lock in and get ready for the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.

“Nothing more special than to come out with a win,” Green finished. “My guys helped me through it, they got through it. I appreciate them…We got to continue to get better, stay focused, lock in, and finish out the road trip.”
