Sixers veteran Danny Green continues to be impressed by Tyrese Maxey

Philadelphia 76ers veteran Danny Green is impressed by young guard Tyrese Maxey.

The Philadelphia 76ers are set to enter a bit of a new era as they look to move forward with the Ben Simmons saga. The 25-year old 3-time All-Star has been looking to be traded from the organization and with a deal being imminent, it means that there will be a new ball-handler.

On the first day of training camp on Tuesday, the Sixers had second-year guard Tyrese Maxey running with the starting unit as their new point guard. After an impressive rookie season where he continued to make some big moves and he continued to develop into an all-around player, he is now looking to take on more responsibility in just his second season.

Maxey already has a fan in veteran guard Danny Green who believes the kid has a bright future.

“He’s special,” Green beamed. “I’m sure everybody can see that. If he continues to do what he does, he can be a really special player in this league. He carries himself like a star and I believe one day he will be a star.”

Is it a bit unrealistic to really say that Maxey can be a star right now?

“Unrealistic? No,” said Green. “Nothing’s unrealistic especially when it comes to a kid like him.”

Maxey still has a long way to go. He is not exactly a natural point guard and he is more of a guy who is looking for his own scoring rather than being a playmaker, but that’s what Green and coach Doc Rivers are here for. They will be there to push him a bit and continue to take steps forward.

“Tyrese for sure you can see,” Green added. “He’s a special player and he’s very mature for his age. He’s smart, he understands the game, and he has a good group around him that can help and Doc. He can’t do it alone. Obviously, we have to help him, but Doc has coached some pretty good point guards and teach them how to run the ship.”

Philadelphia will continue training camp throughout the week and they will play in their first preseason game on Monday against the Toronto Raptors up in Canada.
