The offseason is the time for player rankings. Everybody has their own rankings, but The Athletic has placed players into certain tiers based on what they did in the 2021-22 season.
The Philadelphia 76ers have already had a few players pop up in the tier system, but now is the time for the versatile, do-it-all forward: Tobias Harris.
After a slow start to the 2021-22 season in terms of his shooting, Harris shot 40% from deep after the All-Star break as he settled into his role of being a catch-and-shoot guy next to James Harden. He also continued to make strides on the defensive end, pestering the opposition’s best scorers every night.
He averaged 17.5 points and 6.8 rebounds to boot.
For his work, Harris was placed in the 4B tier, the connectors subcategory, by The Athletic’s Seth Partnow. Partnow put Harris with other connectors such as Tyrese Haliburton, Aaron Gordon and Lonzo Ball:
“Connector” is a term that has gained currency in the NBA over the last several years. The definition is somewhat malleable, but in general, it refers to guys who somewhat bridge the gap between their teams’ primary initiator star and the completely teammate-dependent role players. These are guys who can do a little bit of everything.

It will be interesting to see how Harris continues to grow and add to his game in the 2022-23 season. Despite the upcoming season being his 12th, the veteran out of Tennessee always seems to find a way to add to his game. He has been much better on the defensive end the past few seasons than earlier in his career.
