PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers had a tough afternoon on Sunday as they fell to the Milwaukee Bucks 119-98. It was a day where things did not go well on either end of the floor. Philadelphia couldn’t find a rhythm on the offensive end and it affected everybody.
Tyrese Maxey had a solid day with 24 points and seven assists, but it wasn’t enough to get a guy like Tobias Harris going.
With Joel Embiid out, the Sixers need Harris to be involved on the offensive end and be the No. 2 scorer within the offense next to Maxey. On Sunday, Harris shot just 3-for-11 and wasn’t able to really contribute on that end of the floor.
“I think that’s probably on me,” Maxey said of Harris’s recent struggles. “I gotta get him better shots. Get him in a position where he’s comfortable. Just a testimony to what Nurse was talking about. Gotta get guys in the right spots on plays and not just take plays off of one pass shots, no pass shots so I got to do a better job of getting him better shots and get him in better spots to be successful.”
Maxey is still working through the balance of looking for his one offense while setting up his teammates. That could be a reason why Harris has been unable to really get going as of late, but the Sixers obviously need him.
“I’m trying,” Maxey said of the balance. “I’m learning every single day. Trying to get better at it. It’s difficult, but I try to get in the paint and kick out. Try to play pick-and-roll with guys.”
While Harris and Philadelphia’s wing players weren’t able to get going, Maxey was able to find some rhythm with De’Anthony Melton as the Sixers looked to work their way back into the game.
“When Melt got in, I did call like three, four plays in a row for him,” Maxey added. “I told him, even he was tired, saying like ‘Man listen, can we give it to someone else?’ Like nah. He was rolling. So, I wanted him to keep going. I tried–I don’t think I’m a selfish player so I try to get other guys involved. I try to move off the ball some and let other guys do things and also try to be aggressive as well.”
The Sixers will look to get going again on Tuesday when they pay a visit to the Boston Celtics.
