Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid underwent surgery on his injured meniscus on Tuesday, and he has begun the recovery stage.
Per a statement from the Sixers, Embiid had a successful procedure to address an injury to the lateral meniscus in his left knee. He will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks. The Sixers hope the big fella can return during the regular season, which ends for Philadelphia on April 14.
In the meantime, the Sixers are 4-11 without Embiid following a loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday at home. The hope is Philadelphia will find ways to win enough without him to stay in the title contention race in the East.
How Embiid’s recovery goes over next few weeks will be paramount but there continues to be a belief that the door isn’t closed on the possibility of the reigning MVP’s return this season, sources tell ESPN. https://t.co/FsrRukSREb

In the absence of Embiid, the Sixers will need to rely on Paul Reed and Mo Bamba to step in and produce in his place. They don’t have to be Embiid, but they will have to play their roles to a T.
