CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers remain positive about Kelly Oubre Jr. The Sixers wing player was struck by a vehicle on Saturday night, and he sustained injuries to his ribs, hip and right leg.
While coach Nick Nurse expects Oubre to be an observer at practice sooner rather than later, it remains to be seen how long he will be out.
While the Sixers work through one of their teammates dealing with a tragic event, they have stayed positive and sent thoughts and well-wishes.
“Yeah, we did send him a little video after the game last night,” said Nurse at practice on Monday. “He sent his appreciation back, how much he liked it, and there’s some of us going over to see him (Monday) afternoon, so we’ll check in on him.”
While the Sixers are visiting Oubre to check up on him, they have to think about how to stay aware of their surroundings when they’re out.
“For me, I don’t like to walk a lot,” Paul Reed said. “I like to have my car real close to wherever I’m out so I don’t have to be walking too much. For me, I like to stay aware of my surroundings. It’s tragic what happened to KO and I’m pretty sure he was trying to make it home. He probably wasn’t doing nothing wrong. The car just came out of nowhere.”
Having his teammates visit will be a nice pick-me-up for Oubre, especially considering he had a tough free agency and has been a Sixer for all of two months. The Sixers have built team camaraderie early, and Oubre has been a key part of that.
