Sixers star Joel Embiid to switch agencies ahead of a big summer

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is leaving the CAA sports agency ahead of a big summer for him.

The Philadelphia 76ers are moving on after a tough ending to their season after falling in Game 7 at home to the Atlanta Hawks in Round 2 of the playoffs. They do have some housecleaning things to take care of, including taking care of their star big man.

Joel Embiid is coming off a terrific season where he averaged 28.5 points and 10.6 rebounds while finishing as a runner-up to Nikola Jokic in the MVP award. Embiid constantly was putting the Sixers on his back to ensure that they earned the No. 1 seed in the East and he is now in line to earn a supermax contract extension this summer.

As he heads into the negotiations, Embiid is leaving the CAA sports agency that was representing him. Per Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Embiid was represented by Leon Rose who left for the New York Knicks, but he was then represented by Michael Tellem. Now, he wants a new agency as Pompey reports:

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Embiid had been represented at the agency by former super agent Leon Rose before Rose became the New York Knicks’ president of basketball operations on March 2, 2020. Rose and Embiid had a great agent/client relationship.

After Rose left, Embiid remained with CAA, where he was represented by Michael Tellem. Now he’s interested in building the right marketing team.

The Sixers will be probably be working quickly to get the big fella the contract he deserves as they head into the 2021-22 season. This offseason is going to be very interesting for the Sixers as they look to continue down their path for a title.
