Sixers star Joel Embiid out vs. Cavaliers, Dwight Howard to start in place

The Philadelphia 76ers will start Dwight Howard in place of Joel Embiid against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Philadelphia 76ers made a move in free agency for nights like this. For the nights when Joel Embiid cannot go, the team now has one of the more reliable big men in the game to turn to in his place.

Embiid will miss Sunday night’s matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers due to back tightness and the team will turn to Dwight Howard in his place. Embiid had 27 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday’s win over the New York Knicks and he did a warm-up before Sunday’s game, but he is now a late scratch with the team turning to Howard who had nine points and six rebounds on Saturday.

Howard will start with the other four regular starters Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Danny Green, and Tobias Harris. They will be looking to win both games of this two-game road trip and improve to 3-0 on the season.

Philadelphia will need Howard to hold down the fort and continue to produce as the team looks to keep the winning feeling going. Tipoff from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse is set for 7:30 p.m. EST.
