Sixers star Joel Embiid named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid may not have played in Sunday’s season finale win over the Detroit Pistons, but he had a terrific week in terms of his production on the floor.

Embiid averaged 34.7 points and 14.3 rebounds on 60.9% shooting with Philadelphia going 3-1 on the week. His scoring output clinched him averaging 30 points on the season which makes him the first center to do so since Moses Malone in 1982 and he is the first big man to lead the league in scoring since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000.

That production makes Embiid the winner of the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season. Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic won the award in the West.

Embiid and the Sixers will now turn their attention to the playoffs. They will have a tough matchup against Pascal Siakam and the division rival Toronto Raptors in Round 1. That series gets set to begin on Saturday.
