MIAMI — Slumps happen in the NBA. Shooters go through a tough time when it seems as if they can’t throw a rock into the ocean.
For Philadelphia 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz, it has felt that way all season. His 3-point shooting has dropped to 29% after going 0-for-4 from deep in a loss to the Miami Heat on Saturday.
“I told him right after the game, you can never get too high or too low,” said star big man Joel Embiid. “When you play well, don’t let it get to you, and when you play bad, you always know that you can get better so he’s gonna be fine.”
Korkmaz shot 40.2% from deep in the 2019-20 season, and he shot 37.5% in the 2020-21 season. This isn’t just a slump. This has been a miserable shooting season from the jump, and he has to find a way to break out of it to help this team move forward.
“He’s frustrated about his play and I’m sure he’s gonna pick it up, but it’s on us to also make it easy for him,” said Embiid. “That’s all I told him, but he’s gonna be fine.”
If Korkmaz can’t get it going, the Sixers need to consider going to Danny Green and Shake Milton over him. Green is a better defender and Milton is a physical guard who can go downhill. The Sixers need to find production from their wing players off the bench.
