Sixers star Joel Embiid explains altercation with Hawks forward John Collins

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid explains his altercation with Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins.

The Philadelphia 76ers were able to save their season when they went on the road and knocked off the Atlanta Hawks 104-99 in Game 6 in what was a physical battle back and forth. The Sixers got big performances out of Seth Curry and Tyrese Maxey to keep the team afloat and they were able to get big defensive plays down the stretch.

Amid all of the physical play was a bit of an altercation of sorts in the fourth quarter as big man Joel Embiid was called for an offensive foul against Hawks big man John Collins in the fourth quarter. When Embiid went to contest to the officials that it was not a foul, it appeared that Collins pushed him in the back and Embiid responded by pushing him a bit into the basket.

The result was double technical fouls for both Embiid and Collins and the offensive foul on the big fella stood.

“I didn’t think it was an offensive foul,” Embiid explained afterward. “I was just trying to stay calm and have my hands up, and someone was pushing me from the back and I don’t understand why I got a tech, but I guess it is what it is.”

The Sixers were in foul trouble all night as Philadelphia had issues with both Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris in foul trouble with Simmons at five and Harris at four. Embiid also had four fouls on the night and he only attempted four free throws which is way below his season average.

“I was hacked all night,” Embiid added. “I don’t think I got to the free-throw line until I got to the fourth quarter and all that stuff. It was questionable, but we got the win and that’s all that matters.”

The Sixers will now look to finish off the comeback by winning Game 7 back at home on Sunday.
