MINNEAPOLIS — Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden has been questioned a lot in his NBA career. Despite putting up eye-popping numbers and leading the league in scoring three times and leading the league in assists once, he still gets questioned often.
There have been accusations of him being a bad teammate, which he responded to on Friday. There have been questions about poor playoff performances. And there is the thought he might not be able to make it work with Joel Embiid.
After he had 27 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds in his team debut in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, Harden was asked if he feels like he has something to prove with the Sixers.
“I’ve been doing this thing for a very long time,” Harden said succinctly. “I don’t got nothing to prove individually. As a unit, I think we got something to prove.”
As far as a unit, Harden believes the Sixers have something to prove. The goal in Philadelphia is to obviously win a title, and they want to do that with this team.
“We all have something to prove,” Harden added. “We have one common goal. Everybody knows what that goal is.”
As the players move forward, coach Doc Rivers will be tasked with making this work.
“However Doc draws it up and sees it, I’m willing to do it,” he finished. “As long as we can win, it doesn’t matter.”
