Sixers star James Harden has a 15% trade kicker in new contract

In his new contract, Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden has a 15% trade kicker.

The Philadelphia 76ers took care of business in the offseason when they brought in more depth and upgraded the perimeter defense on their roster. They also signed James Harden to a two-year deal to keep him in the City of Brotherly Love.

Harden was not the explosive scorer he had shown in his career, but he still had a big impact. He averaged 21 points, 10.5 assists and 7.1 rebounds in 21 games after the trade. He obviously has to be a bit better than that, but those numbers are nothing to sneeze at. He did that while dealing with a bad hamstring all season.

The Sixers signed Harden to a two-year $68.6 million deal, but an interesting wrinkle in his deal has been reported by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. The future Hall of Famer has a 15% trade kicker in his deal, so if the Sixers decide to trade him at any point, he will receive 15% of his remaining salary from Philadelphia.

The Sixers are unlikely to trade Harden at any point over the next two seasons, but if they were to have a change of heart, it would cost them to move The Beard.
