MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.–The Philadelphia 76ers acquired James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets in a deadline deal back on Feb. 10 and they knew what they were bringing into the City of Brotherly Love.
The Sixers knew they were bringing in a Hall of Fame talent, but Harden also brought a lot of baggage with him as he has gained a reputation as a bit of a bad teammate. Things went sour with certain teammates with the Houston Rockets and the Nets and he gained an unfortunate reputation.
Joel Embiid refuted that reputation at shootaround on Friday and Harden was surprised to hear that he is a bad teammate.
“I don’t know why,” said Harden after his debut. “That’s for the media. The media says that. I feel like I’m one of the best teammates that the NBA has seen on the court and off the court. Just because the current situations happened whatever happened, it doesn’t mean that I’m a bad teammate.”
Things went a little south during his previous two stops, but Harden is not going to really rehash any of that. He just wants to move forward with the Sixers as he begins a new chapter in his career.
“I just personally felt like I needed to do what’s best for my career and help myself and be happy,” he added. “It doesn’t harp on if I’m a bad teammate or not.”
