The Philadelphia 76ers had to go battle with the Denver Nuggets severely shorthanded due to missing so many players due to the league’s health and safety protocols concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. On top of that, they are now dealing with injuries that are keeping other players out of the lineup.
They did not have Ben Simmons nor Joel Embiid against Denver on Saturday even though both players cleared the safety protocols due to injuries. Coach Doc Rivers explained that Simmons had a knee issue and Embiid began complaining about his back over the weekend.
While Embiid’s status is still unknown for Monday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, it has been determined that Simmons will miss the game. He will not travel with the team to Atlanta and he will be evaluated day-to-day moving forward.

This is tough news for a team who has championship aspirations and they are still trying to work out the kinks under Rivers. The Sixers will most likely have to count on rookies Tyrese Maxey and Isaiah Joe even more in the upcoming week.
