Sixers sign NBA G League MVP Paul Reed to a standard contract

Reed became the third player in G League history this season to win both the MVP and Rookie of the Year awards.

On Friday, the Philadelphia 76ers announced that they signed rookie Paul Reed to a standard NBA contract following a successful stint in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats.

Reed, who was previously signed to a two-way contract, was named the NBA G League Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year this week after averaging 22.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.8 blocks. He shot 58.8% from the field and 44.4% from 3-point range.

The second-round pick ranked third among all qualified players in the G League in scoring and rebounding, and was tied for third in steals. Reed also recorded a league-high 12 double-doubles throughout the season on assignment with the Blue Coats.

Since returning from the G League, Reed has logged three appearances with the Sixers. He recorded four points and three rebounds in nine minutes off the bench on Thursday during an eight-point win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

With Reed now on a standard contract, the Sixers opted to fill his two-way contract spot by signing rookie Mason Jones. He spent time this season with the Houston Rockets, averaging 5.8 points, two rebounds and 1.5 assists in 26 games.
