Sixers say Tobias Harris shot was supposed to be for Josh Richardson

The Philadelphia 76ers say the final look was supposed to be for Josh Richardson, not Tobias Harris.

The Philadelphia 76ers were in dire straits. They found themselves trailing the hapless New York Knicks on the road after a big shot by Marcus Morris and they needed to find an answer.

That is when their $180 million max deal man stepped up and made a play.

Tobias Harris got himself free, spun around, and he stepped up and he drilled a 3-pointer to give Philadelphia the lead and they held on for a 90-87 win to snap a six-game road losing streak. The thing is, the play was supposed to be for Josh Richardson who was rolling toward the basket before Harris found himself open.

“If you go back, J-Rich is open,” said coach Brett Brown. “That’s the first look and it was a 2-for-1 thing, we were trying to get a quick look. There was 30.8 seconds, it’s a 2-for-1 and you’ve got to get something quick, get a chance to get two possessions to their one. It was a little broken, Tobias made the correct read coming back out of it and made a tough shot, but if you rewind it, go look at J-Rich.”

“We had to get one up quick so I went and shot it,” Harris said.

Harris was pretty open on the play and he said he was a little shocked at just how open he was.

“Yeah, a little bit,” he added. “But hey, it is what it is.”

After looking at the play, Richardson is rolling to the basket and Ben Simmons could have hit him with a pass to take the lead on something quick, but the Sixers are fine with the result.

“There were a couple of looks at it, but Tobias’ look was open and he made a good play,” said Richardson.

The Sixers will now look to take this and head into Barclays Center on Monday and put on a good effort against the Brooklyn Nets. [lawrence-related id=23773,23695,23765]
