Sixers rookies struggle, Blue Coats fall in G League championship game

The Philadelphia 76ers rookies struggled a bit as the Delaware Blue Coats fall in the G League title game.

While the Philadelphia 76ers are in Chicago as they prepare for the second half of the season against the Bulls, their G League affiliate was playing in the championship game in the Orlando bubble.

The Delaware Blue Coats have been having a terrific season, but they ran into a buzzsaw in the Lakeland Magic on Thursday afternoon. The Magic shot the ball very well at 49.4% compared to just 31.4% for Delaware and they knocked off the Blue Coats 97-78 to win the 2021 G League championship.

The Sixers had two rookies performing for the Blue Coats and the two of them did struggle a bit in this one. Paul Reed shot just 6-for-19 for 13 points and 11 rebounds while Isaiah Joe shot 5-for-13 and 3-for-9 from deep for 18 points.

Two-way player Rayjon Tucker led the Blue Coats with 20 points, but even he just shot 7-for-21 from the floor as Delaware had a rough game on offense.

Reed, Joe, and Tucker will now most likely join the Sixers as the G League season does come to an end. Reed and Joe were able to gain a ton of experience which is what they needed in order to develop correctly while Tucker will be joining the Sixers for the first time this season. He was sent to the Orlando bubble once he was signed to his two-way deal.
