There are just some attributes that people are born with that they can use to help advance themselves through life. Whether it is a natural ability to sing or to dance or play a sport, everybody has something they can use to push forward.

For Philadelphia 76ers rookie Tyrese Maxey, he has an easy ability to be able to get to the rim and finish with ease. Combine that with his maniacal work ethic and it makes for a guy who can finish and score at the basket.

“I think it’s a little bit of both,” said Maxey. “Off instincts, being able to use my speed, use my pace, use my creative finishes at the rim, I realized I was going to be 6-foot-3 or 6-foot-4, around that range and my senior year of high school. I figured out ways to not always get all the way to the rim, but still getting to the rim and using floater packages, different touch packages, being creative.”

Maxey’s ability to get into the paint and score is something that will be very useful for Philadelphia moving forward. They need somebody like him who can put the ball on the floor and be creative. They have not had somebody like that for a few seasons now.

Having somebody like him on the roster who has that innate ability, but also want to keep working hard and improving is something that will make coach Doc Rivers happy.

“It’s instinctive, but I have to work on it,” Maxey added. “I work on it every single day, working on different touch packages, and I think that’s a great part of my game.” [lawrence-related id=39403,39400,39394]
